"Allison's Stand" sits in Societal Complexities

After going hiatus for a while on my blog, massive events have happened in my life that if I begin to share, you will open your mouth and will not close it until a creeping insect finds its way down your throat.

The throttle pace with which things just unfolded in the space of two months has mammothly overwhelmed even me and a lot of people have sent me inboxes, email, calls and text asking why the blog seems not to be really functioning for a while now but the truth is, when the mind is as crowded as mine, it is harder to find the pen that can express it.

But here we are, yet unfortunate that this is not the gist for today!

Today’s gist is about a premiere I attended on the 7th of December 2014 at the Oriental Hotel by Maxima Production outfit and I really had a great time at the place. First, it was my first time of attending a function at the Oriental Hotel (supposedly owned by the Godfather of Lagos Politics; Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu) and you should hear my wife sounding out directions on the phone to me; she was feeling fly that that she had been to Oriental Hotel and I hadn’t; as if they paid into someone’s bank account for that singular reason. Shiooooor!

Secondly, the drama which premiered at the Oriental hotel had all the trappings of quality mixed with ingenuity. The executive producer is a young man who goes by the name Femi Ogundolo and like Uti Nwachukwu, who was the MC of the occasson rightly said about him, he was a very unassuming man. He birthed this idea and it is a masterpiece.

The drama, Allison’s Stand season 2 is a soap opera about a career woman, Bolatito, who had to contend with the choice of family or a career path. The inevitably conflicting journey pans out in our contemporary society as more and more women take up Executive positions in big multinationals and the stress of combining these huge responsibilities can be telling. The story is just a reflection of the realities on ground and Mr. Ogundolo spelt out the mission of his company while giving his welcoming speech that the purpose of the soap opera was ‘not only to show to the people drama for its sake but also to provoke the thought process about contemporary challenges for real time players in our society and the best possible way to create unique solutions to them’.

Clips were shown and the audience clapped resoundingly for the energetic purpose with which the project was birthed and the excellent work from pre-production through to post-production. The cast and crew were invited to the floor, exhibited to the audience; asked several questions and asked to take a bow.

Undoubtedly, it was a WOW night, full of energy, pomp and this soap opera will not be your normal TV drama series but one that will change the thought process of a nation or continent for years to come.

It will start showing from 20th of December 2014 on stations like AIT, Silverbird, African Magic and the rest of other terrestrial Stations in the continent. Our fingers are crossed and we can’t wait to see the first episode of the season 2 of Allison’s Stand. Apparently, the season 1 came out last two year as a test run but this is far better and more improved as the Producer, Directors and cast made us to know.

Allison’s Stand may not favour a lot of people but if thrown in such a scenario, where will you stand?
