As at press time, 20th of OCtober 2015, the 8th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,
headed by Senator Bukola Saraki are screening ministerial nominees as presented
by the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari.
The list were sent in 2 batches, the first consisting 21 names and the
second 15. The first 21 names were screened except for former governor of
Rivers State and infant terrible Rotimi Amaechi and Mr Adebayo Shittu, Oyo
State gubernatorial candidate in the 2011 elections under the now defunct CPC.
Amaechi, who was among the first batch of 21
ministerial nominees President Buhari sent to the NASS could not face the
exercise on Tuesday and Wednesday due largely to non-submission of the report
on petitions against him by the Senate Committee on Ethics and Petitions.
Chairman, Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Media and
Publicity, Dino Melaye, told newsmen, yesterday that the former
Director-General of Buhari Presidential Campaign Organization, would be
screened with eight other nominees on Tuesday, when the Senate reconvenes.
Also being at the risk of being replaced is Mrs. Aisha Abubakar from
Sokoto State who has a petition written against her and it was presented on the floor by senator
Ibrahim Gobir from Sokoto East. He argued that she is not qualified hence the
president should nominate someone else more competent.
The list of nominees already cleared by the Senate and list forwarded to
President Buhari are:
Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Chief Audu
Ogbeh, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, Lt. Gen. Bello Danbazau (retd),
Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Hajiya Amina Mohammed, Engr. Suleiman Adamu and Alhaji
Ibrahim Usman Jibril.
Others are Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), Dr. Ibe
Kachikwu, Abubakar Malami (SAN), Dr. Chris Ngige, Senator Aishat Al-Hassan, Mr.
Solomon Dalong, Mrs Kemi Adeosun and Senator Hadi Sirika.
3 nominees were screened today, Rt. Hon Amaechi's screening has once again been postponed till tomorrow Wednesday, 21 October 2015.
