MOHAVE POWER PROJECT; HOPE FOR NIGERIA'S EPILEPTIC POWER?

While watching GPS, Fareed Zakaria's CNN broadcast yesterday, he reported about a solar project in the Mohave Desert of South Eastern California. He said on his show that the project will power about 160, 000 (One Hundred and Sixty thousand) homes in the USA and the project involves the systemic arrangement of solar panels of about 260, 000 mirrors to face the sun from its rising to its setting.

While researching on line, I found out that the Mohave Solar Project is a Solar Thermal power facility that will generate 250 MW of power and will ONLY cost $1.6 billion. I used the word ONLY because in Nigeria alone, over $30 billion has been spent on power generation and transmission since the Obasanjo regime till date, yet the issue of power outage has not been resolved.

The Government keeps deceiving herself by inviting foreign investors when power is not stable yet. The abundance of solar energy in Nigeria leaves the issue a-begging. I hope someone somewhere is reading this and can advice the government to learn from this project and bring such idea to bear right here in Nigeria. We have the human and material resources to power such course.
