BLACKGEOISIE IS THE NEW BLACK by Onikeku Qudus

#‎Blackgeoisie‬ is the new Black.
‪#‎Ankara‬ is their new uniform.
This morning I guess I was knocked awake by Frantz ‪#‎Fanon‬ and Fela‪#‎Kuti‬, I woke up a little angry so I wrote about this new word in my head. It is Blackgeoisie, not that I'm insensitive to a clear reality of African elite culture,
actually in my proper ‪#‎Yoruba‬ culture, or ‪#‎Egba‬culture, to be more specific, there's a great sense of refinement that leads to a quality of living close to that of any bourgeois anywhere in the world, so I know about that personally. But this vulgar metamorphosis that now begin to parade the stratum of a new Africa destined to commit same errors as the wasted generations of the 60s.
Blackgeoisie is becoming the new ‪#‎Black‬. Usually these Blackgeoise have got two passports, an ‪#‎African‬ passport they flash only when in Africa, and another one that they silently cherish, and would probably bow down and offer sacrifice to every morning. All the conversation they want to have about Africa happens at fashion shows, see-me-see-you cocktails, ‪#‎cinema‬ premieres and other Afro-glamorous events, they are usually western trained ‪#‎young‬ professionals, aggressive about being successful, overtly ambitious, amazingly individualistic and... oh how they love to wear colorful Ankara ‪#‎prints‬ to cover their skins, even when they know where those prints are fabricated, they care little about that, already they harbor a crazy negative attitudes toward the poor peasants, lazy laborers and all others who makes them feel shame. If anyone is still wondering why I opted out of the ‪#‎NollywoodWeek‬ ‪#‎Paris‬team, it's simply because I didn't see it as another Blackgeoisie tool for social climbing.
Ok. That's by the side.
As much as I keep my guard always, against this predators, these lots sometimes get me unawares, because they've probably gone to a big name school in the western capitals, so naturally they are ‪#‎clever‬ and cunning, they make you believe they are fighting same fight as yours, when all they need is a pint of your poor African ‪#‎blood‬. They know that some of us believe that we must vacate the seduction of pernicious racialised thinking, and recognize African ‪#‎identities‬ as fluid, and that the metaphorical meaning of being African in present times, lies in our ability to adapt myriad realities, and mix, and blend, and superimpose, and juxtapose, and blur, till we are able to create a ‪#‎complexity‬ that only a deeply ‪#‎rooted‬ African can fully grasp.
But in reality the Blackgeoisie has got no skin color, by their adherence to ‪#‎Western‬ cultural forms, as in their dress, ‪#‎codes‬‪#‎conducts‬ and‪#‎language‬, all with a little touch of "Africa" of course, and by their hair you shall know them. They, as a matter of fact take much pride In being‪#‎BlackAmerican‬‪#‎BlackBritish‬‪#‎BlackFrench‬‪#‎BlackChinese‬,‪#‎WhiteAfrican‬ or every other shades of black than being Black African. It is no longer shocking to know that there's an increasing amount of Blackgeoise who are not even black, but they will tell you "Africa is a space of mind bro" by their ‪#‎accent‬ you shall know them, because they probably have lived in Africa for so loonnnnggg, even longer than‪#‎Mandela‬ probably, usually they marry a Blackgeoise, and they have their ‪#‎business‬ in the black #economy.
These breeds of new black elite are spread all over the world, you sometimes can easily identify them, because they are not skillful at all. Most of them seek refuge and find a good argument in having double consciousness, or sometimes triple, they hide their Africanness behind also being something else other than African, but If unfortunately born and raised in #Africa, that's where it becomes paramount for them to have a carefully selected spouse with a profile of a good Blackgeoise or a white Blackgeoise
